Conscious Calm recently finished a free promotional run in the Kindle Direct Publishing program, and what a fun and wild ride it was!
As a newbie to the KDP program, it was my first time using free promotional days to get the word out and offer the book for free globally. I had set what felt like a daunting, optimistic goal of 10,000 free downloads in three days.
With some promotion through websites highlighting free Kindle books, and some buzz on both Twitter and Facebook, the book began to be downloaded at a good clip right away. This probably speaks to the numbers of people trying to deal with stress, and ready and willing to explore effective approaches to stress management, especially when offered for free.
By the second day, Conscious Calm had hit #1 in the Top 100 Free Books in Self-Help. It reached as high as #3 in the Top 100 Free Kindle Books overall for a while. This non-fiction, self help book about effective stress management never did rise above a romance and a mystery thriller, but perhaps that is to be expected!
Overall, Conscious Calm had 28,039 free downloads globally, an excellent result. This included a couple hundred downloads in India, and downloads across the European Union, Japan, and Brazil. The book continues to sell at #2 in Stress Management, and is ranging among top five in Self Help on Kindle. In the meantime, I have received tweets from a young woman who had been having trouble sleeping, who tweeted that three chapters in, she was able to sleep well the night before. And a veteran now working as a social worker with groups of veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury wrote to ask about using Conscious Calm in his groups. It was an inspiring, fun several days. Great gratitude to those who helped spread the word, wrote reviews, and otherwise supported this effort.
